We hired a car in England for collect ion at Corfu Airport as we wanted to see as much of the island as we could. The roads to Agios Stefanos are surprising well signposted although a little hair raising in places (my husband who drove disagrees with this, he thought they were not too bad for Greece) and we found Agios Stefanos quite easily with a good map.

We were met on arrival by Speros the owner who showed us to our room which although basic had all we needed. We had a sea view room and the view from our balcony was stunning. Speros was very informative and always helpful, he was very definite that if there was anything we weren't happy about or needed we should let him know.

The service we received from Speros' and his staff who work well as a team was excellent, each had their own individual character, from our breakfast delivered by the delightfully funny Aris to dinner which was delivered by lovely sweet Chris and the "No problem, pay me later" Vangelis who was so gentlemanly. Speros took a hand as well just checking everything was to our satisfaction. How could it not be, the standard of the evening meal was superb, home cooked good Greek food at its best and so much of it. Both my husband and I are what you would call good eaters and we were so full every night, no small helpings here.

Jo behind the bar was friendly, welcoming and good fun, as was the lady who did the cleaning for the hotel always so friendly.

Speros should be very proud of all his staff members, they all get on so well, he should look after them as they are such a credit to him and his family.

The hotel is located in the older traditional part of the town but is within a short walk to bars with entertainment, shops, tavernas, places where you can book coach or boat trips and car hire. We ate lunch at the Tasty Corner which was good value for light bites. The lovely sandy beach was just across the road from the hotel, the sea was warm and very clean. We stopped at "The Waves" taverna a few times for soft drinks and to sit and take in the view.

Entertainment in the hotel is a weekly quiz night that is great fun and also a "Who wants to be a Millionaire" game hosted by the charismatic Speros.

The best part of this holiday for us was the relaxation, nice weather, lovely beach and surroundings and the friendliness of the hotel staff and the Greek people. If you are looking for a riotous holiday this is not for you. We did lots of reading, walking, sunbathing and sightseeing in the area.

What we least liked about this holiday was the mosquito bites. Please go armed with plenty of sprays etc. if you are susceptible to them.

All in all a fabulous holiday.

Unfortunately we cannot make 2010 but we will be back in 2011 - can't wait!
